Title: Soaring Zephyr
Instruments: Flute
Program Notes:
In this piece I try to capture the fast-moving and unpredictable nature of the upper-atmosphere winds. Generally, the notes fit a rough wave pattern, although there are several times where the line will get caught on a note for a second before moving on. The piece starts with a limited group of pitches that is added to slowly over the duration (although the “leftover” pitches are featured as almost ghostly flutters). The range and volume also slowly increase. As soon as all twelve chromatic pitches are part of the main line, the piece ends.
