Title: In-Sight
Instruments: Flute Quartet (four flutes in C)
Program Notes:
In-Sight is a meditative work that is based on the breath in terms of its rhythms and timbres. There are distinct sections that are delineated by pauses in which the flautists simply breathe together. Towards the end of each section, a small discord is introduced that occasionally provokes outbursts from one or more of the flutes. The last of these outbursts—disruptions to the meditation—develops into a longer, more dissonant section which culminates in a fundamental change to the music.
